I made this Max and Ruby BD cake using this chocolate cake recipe. The other half is funfetti cake. The chocolate cake went first because it is so moist and decadent.

Ingredients

1 ¾ cups all purpose flour

2 cups sugar

¾ cup cocoa powder

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 eggs

1 cup milk

½ cup vegetable oil
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

Buttercream frosting recipe

Handful of Oreo cookies, crushed for decorating.
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare 2 - 9 inch cake pans with non-stick baking spray and set aside.
In a large bowl combine, flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix together to combine.
In a small bowl combine eggs, milk, oil and vanilla. Beat well with a hand mixer or whisk.
Combine wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir to completely combine.
Add boiling water to the mixture and fold together to combine. Don’t overmix. Batter will be thin.
Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool cakes on a wire rack. When cool enough to handle, flip pans to remove cakes.
Icing cake with chocolate buttercream and sprinkle with crushed Oreo cookies.
Recipe Note
Chocolate Buttercream
1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)
3 1/2 cups confectioners sugar, sifted
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 tablespoons heavy cream
Add butter to a stand mixer bowl and beat for 3 minutes until light and creamy. Slowly add confectioners sugar, cocoa and salt until incorporated. Add vanilla extract to combine. Slowly add your milk until you have a smooth buttercream. Whip for another 3 minutes until fluffy.
